In order for one’s role in the workplace to be experienced at its best, both in terms of performance and personal satisfaction, it is necessary to have as clear and precise a picture as possible of one’s evolutionary path, starting from the reason one has chosen to carry out that profession and arriving at the definition of one’s growth objectives, accompanied by the awareness of having a personal vision and mission that guide decisions and actions.
The P.E.P. (Personal Evolutionary Pathway) program was created with the aim of offering concrete help in a relatively short time to improve one’s personal and professional life, learning to discover and recognise certain key elements regarding oneself and one’s work: what one believes in, why one has chosen that profession, how to build one’s career dream, and who are the most suitable people to work with to make this dream a reality.
With this in mind, it is aimed firstly at entrepreneurs, professionals, area managers and team managers and then also involves all employees at all levels in order to transfer these elements into corporate life.
It is, in fact, a tool to help employees become aware of whether the role to which they are assigned is one in which they can best express their potential and thus improve the performance of the entire company.
We live in a very complex (as well as interconnected) world, which on the one hand certainly has positive effects, but on the other hand can also be a disempowering factor. This is why understanding your role within a company is particularly important, not only in terms of personal satisfaction but also for the success of the company itself.
From this point of view, understanding your why is the first step in embarking on a path of professional and personal growth. To do so, you must first have a synergetic view of your professional context. A company is like a clock, in which each component, however small, plays a fundamental role in ensuring the movement of the entire apparatus. If a gear is removed or one of the gears is inserted out of place, the clock breaks down or otherwise does not function as it should. Similarly, the function an individual performs within a company is a cog in the company machine; hence, the importance of understanding the role of the individual gears and their correct positioning to keep the system moving.
But how does one come to understand one’s own importance within the workplace? First of all by going beyond the mere description of one’s job and the tasks one performs on a daily basis (what we might call ‘skills’). The P.E.P. course was created precisely with the intention of accompanying the individual towards a clear and profound awareness of what skills and talents one has and how these enable one to perform one’s work to the best of one’s ability and how these are aligned with the company strategy and that of the other members of the work team.
Once this level of understanding has been reached, it is indeed possible to achieve a high level of personal satisfaction while contributing significantly to corporate goals.
Another fundamental step in the Personal Development Pathway is linked to the definition of one’s personal mission and vision.
This is a very important moment, since every company, precisely through the identification of a vision and a mission, presents itself and positions itself within its reference market: the mission and vision define the company’s identity and path, indicating both externally and internally, i.e. to employees, in which direction all efforts are concentrated.
If the definition of vision and mission is so essential for a company, it is appropriate that each of the people in the company is also aware of what their dreams are. Each of us, in fact, has his or her own idea of success and fulfilment and it is essential to take the time to understand what success means for oneself, to make the right decisions that will help one pursue one’s goals. Defining a vision and mission helps to shape one’s goals and not waste energy on the path to their achievement.
Defining one’s own growth goals is another key element in the personal development phases, because it allows one to improve one’s professional role but also to enhance one’s competences and skills. Identifying personal growth goals is the result of a careful evaluation of oneself and the identification of tasks in which one can improve in order to maximise one’s potential.
The benefits of setting personal growth goals are numerous, starting with the fact that having clearly articulated goals makes it easier to complete tasks with better concentration, helping to eliminate distractions. But that’s not all: having growth goals makes it possible to approach different activities with greater dedication, commitment and motivation, feelings that also push one to improve relationships with colleagues and to understand – and this is also one of the contents of a personal growth program such as the P.E.P. course – how to build a valid and effective network of contacts and to define one’s target market, discerning which customers one would like to attract and which ones one actually attracts, two categories that do not always coincide.
Finally, the definition of personal growth goals helps to increase productivity by enhancing work motivation.
The course for individual trainees is structured in 6 weekly modules of 5 hours, while in the case of an in-company course the modalities and timing are defined together to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Helping people working in the company to discover their individual whys, vision, mission and goals enhances the whole environment.
On the one hand, it allows everyone to share each other’s values (corporate and personal) and verify their compatibility, on the other hand, it provides the entrepreneur with the most effective tools to give people the position and role in which they can best express their talents, with an automatic increase in the performance quality of all those involved.
